Languages of Class: Studies in English Working Class History, 1832-1982 by Gareth Stedman-Jones,
This collection of essays by Gareth Stedman Jones proposes a different way of seeing both historians' analytical conceptions of 'class', archery class and the actual manifestation of class in the history of English politics archery class and English culture since the 1830s. As the progenitor of the first generally acknowledged working-class movement, the English working class provided the initial empirical basis for not only the original Marxist theory of modern industry archery class and proletarian revolution, but also subsequent historians' reactions against, or adaptations of, the Marxist theory of class. In Languages of Class Gareth Stedman Jones draws a distinction between two conceptions of class: the everyday archery class and commonplace perception of its pervasiveness in England, archery class and the Marxist idea of its revolutionary significance. He proceeds to challenge the predominant conceptions of the meaning archery class and development of 'class consciousness' by stressing the political archery class and discursive conditions in which particular languages appeared archery class and receded. Among the themes of individual essays in the book are a rethinking of 'the making of the English working class' archery class and the phenomenon of Chartism, a novel exploration of the formation archery class and components of 'working-class culture', and, in the light of these, a new approach to understanding the history of the Labour Party.

The Idea of the Middle Class: White-Collar Workers and Peruvian Society, 1900-1950 by D. S. Parker,

The Idea of the Middle Class: White-Collar Workers and Peruvian Society, 1900-1950 by D. S. Parker,
The first book on the middle class in early twentieth-century Latin America to be published in English in a generation. No social class has generated more controversy than the middle class, archery class and nowhere has that class been more controversial than in Latin America. Once believed not to exist, then later the great hope of the Alliance for Progress, the Latin American middle class is often blamed for not fulfilling the entrepreneurial, democratizing, progressive, or stabilizing role that others ascribe to it. Yet never has a class so widely discussed been so little studied archery class and so poorly understood. David Parker meets this challenge by combining the methods of social historians with attention to language archery class and the cultural construction of meaning as he investigates how archery class and why white-collar workers in Peru's offices, banks, archery class and stores began to define themselves as members of a distinct middle class. He traces the origins of this new class identity archery class and shows the lasting impact the employees' drive for preferential treatment had on Peruvian law, politics, archery class and culture. This book provides a rich description of the lifestyle, values, archery class and attitudes of this rising middle class in their never-ending quest for economic stability, respectability, archery class and recognition in Peruvian society. Through a series of deftly drawn biographical profiles based on a variety of published archery class and archival sources, Parker succeeds in personalizing archery class and bringing alive his protagonists in a way that not only engages the reader but also reveals the importance of personal agency often lost in theoretically archery class and ideologically driven studies of class.
